How to Get More Water When Your Gold Line Runs Dry

My gold line eats water faster than I can find it, and I do not know which of the duplication tricks people mention actually work.

First, the one that does not work

Before you spend an evening on it: the closed lava-and-water loop does not duplicate water.

This comes up constantly — put water above lava, let it boil, catch the steam, condense it back. Players have actually tested it. One ran a closed system for over an hour and concluded you cannot duplicate water that way. Another tried a lava-in-a-cup variant and got no extra water after several minutes.

The cycle conserves. If someone tells you they are generating water this way, they are almost certainly collecting rain that was always going to fall.

What players report working

Cryoblaster snow

Fill a container with snow from the cryoblaster, then melt it down. This is the method the original poster in the Steam thread landed on for solving water scarcity, and a later commenter confirmed it works. The consistent caveat is that it “takes more effort” than the alternative below.

Napalm rockets on bedrock

The more efficient claim: fire napalm rockets at bedrock directly above a small pool of water, which reportedly yields about twice the steam from the same amount of water. One player reported it, referenced creator videos as verification, and a second player confirmed it works.

We have not reproduced this ourselves, and it is a small sample. Treat it as promising rather than settled — and check it against the Early Access build before you design a base around it.

The part that matters more than either trick

Every method above ends in steam, and steam becomes rain. Water you generate at scale will land on your factory later.

That makes water generation and flood control the same engineering problem. Before you scale up water production, build the slanted roof and the block channels that decide where the resulting rain goes. Otherwise you solve a water shortage by creating a water problem.

Checklist

  1. Do not build a closed lava loop expecting duplication — it has been tested and it does not.
  2. Cryoblaster snow, melted down, is the reliable reported method.
  3. Napalm on bedrock over a small pool is the efficient one, on a smaller evidence base.
  4. Roof and channel your factory before scaling water production, because it all comes back as rain.

Frequently asked

Can you duplicate water with lava in Sandustry?

No. Players tested a closed loop boiling water on lava — one ran it for over an hour — and concluded it produces no net gain. Water in, the same water back out.

Does the cryoblaster method work?

Players report it does. Fill a container with snow from the cryoblaster, then melt it. It is described as more effort than the alternative, but it works.

What is the napalm rocket water trick?

A player reported that firing napalm rockets at bedrock directly above a small pool of water produces roughly twice the steam from the same water, and another player confirmed it. We have not reproduced it ourselves — treat it as a player claim.
