Sandustry calculators and fix-it guides

Size your gold line with your own measured rates, plan a research order that compounds, and fix the jams, floods and dead pipes that stop a factory. Every number on this site says where it came from.

Tools, not another wiki

Sandustry already has an official wiki. What it does not have is arithmetic — so that is what this site is for: calculators and planners you would otherwise do on paper.

Sourced or labelled

Every claim links to the Steam thread, devlog or official page it came from, and carries a tag so you can see at a glance what is solid.

No invented numbers

Sandustry has not published machine throughputs. Rather than print plausible-looking guesses, the calculators take your measurements — and say so.

Fixes for what actually breaks

Six things to get right early

  1. Learn the gold loop

Mine sand, wet it with water, drop the wet sand on a shaker built on a diagonal. Gold falls through, slag carries on.

  2. Build at the source

Manual hauling is the biggest early time sink. A short belt from the dig site to the shaker pays for itself immediately.

  3. Throttle before you scale

Machines clog because too much arrives at once, not because you have too few. Filter upstream first, then add machines.

  4. Turn slag into a second gold line

Burn slag to burnt slag, drop it from height onto a Kinetic Slag Press. It breaks into gold and spores.

  5. Roof the base before it rains

Steam rises, condenses and falls back on you. A slanted roof moves it away before it becomes your flooding problem.

  6. Spend gold in an order that compounds

Gold is the research currency. Buy the things that produce more gold or remove more hauling, in that order.

What the game looks like

A multi-level Sandustry factory with conveyor lines, sorting banks and rows of planters
A mature base: sorting banks, planter rows and belt trunks stacked over several levels.

Every pixel falls. Stored material drains the moment you open a wall beneath it.
Parallel Sandustry material lines feeding a lava-fed slag pit beside a gold silo
Parallel lines feeding a lava pit — the burn step that turns slag into press input.
A large gold store and conveyor network built across open sky in Sandustry
Gold accumulating faster than it is spent, which is the sign to revisit research order.
A Sandustry surface base above the cave line moving material between two silos
Surface work above the cave line, where rain is a factor and roofing starts to matter.
A Sandustry mining operation running below the surface
Going deeper: new material, longer hauls, and a reason to unlock logistics early.

Frequently asked

What is Sandustry?

A factory automation game by Lantto Games, published by Hooded Horse, set in a fully destructible 2D world where every pixel is a mineable resource with physical properties. It combines production chains with falling-sand physics.

When does Sandustry release?

It enters Steam Early Access on August 13, 2026, releasing on Steam, GOG and the Microsoft Store, and joining PC Game Pass on day one. A free demo is available on Steam.

Does Sandustry support Chinese and other languages?

Yes. The store page lists 23 supported languages, including Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, German, French and Spanish.

Is Sandustry multiplayer?

No. The Steam store page lists it as single-player, with Steam Achievements, Steam Cloud and Family Sharing.

Is this the official Sandustry wiki?

No. This is an unofficial fan site of calculators and troubleshooting guides. Sandustry has an official wiki at sandustry.wiki.gg, which is the right place for encyclopedic lookups.

Why do some numbers on this site say "not documented"?

Because no official machine throughput figures have been published. Rather than print plausible-looking guesses that would ruin builds, this site leaves those fields empty and says so. They will be filled in from the shipped Early Access game data.
